Working in pairs produce a batch of even sized jam filled buns

 

Year 7: Thumbprint Buns

Ingredients:

·        200g self-raising flour

·        100g butter/ block margarine

·        100g caster sugar

·        1 egg, beaten

·        1 tablespoon milk

·        Jam

Method:

1.     Preheat the oven to 220 degrees. Grease baking tray.

2.     In a bowl sieve flour, then cut in the butter/margarine and rub between your fingertips until the mixture resembles breadcrumbs.

3.     Add the sugar and mix well. Mix in the egg and enough milk to a firm dough then divide the mixture into 12 even pieces.

4.     Shape piece each into a ball and place on tray. Make a dent in the centre of the bun using your thumb and spoon a little jam into the hole. NO MORE THAN HALF A TEASPOON

5.     Bake in the preheated oven for 10-15 minutes, until they are golden brown and risen.
